Doctor Strange sequel might be adding a bizarre movie villain

A new villain is about to make an appearance in the sequel, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The monster is inspired by a sea monster from the comics. In a report CBR it was reported that the monster is one-eyed, squid-like sea monster called Gargantos who first made his debut in the 1969 in Marvel’s Sub-Mariner #13 by Roy Thomas and Marie Severin. The comics briefed that the deadly monster battled with the DC sea monster named Namor the Sub-Mariner and their battle led to the destruction of the Lemurian Emperor Naga. Gargantos again appeared briefly one more time two decades later in a backup story by Peter Sanderson and Mark Bagley in X-Factor Annual #4. Since then, the not-so-human-like monster hasn’t made any appearances until now.

According to actor Yenifer Molina’s professional profile on Mandy, she has been credited with the role of ‘Gargantos Fight 2’ in the Doctor Strange sequel which is starring Benedict Cumberbatch. Monika is best known for her work in 2019s Pokémon Detective Pikachu movie and this year’s Tom and Jerry movie. The connection between the monster and Molina’s “Gargantos 2” is still unknown.

In the comics it was seen that this monster never took any human form throughout its appearance so, if the casting is accurate, it’s unclear whether the character will be inspired by the comics’ Gargantos or will take an entirely different, more human appearance. It can be considered that if the monster never took human form, then Monika’s character will be totally new and different.

Monika is not the only face which is new in the cast and characters list of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The sequel will also see the debut of Xochitl Gomez as America Chavez. The character, also known as Ms America, is a powerful hero able to create portals to travel freely through time and the multiverse. The other cast members include: Rachel McAdams, Benedict Wong and Chiwetel Ejiofor, as well as Elizabeth Olsen, who reprises the role of Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch.

The film is directed by Spider-Man’s Sam Raimi and it reportedly follows up events from Loki and WandaVision on Disney+, as well as 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will mark the return of Cumberbatch as the titular superhero, following his MCU debut in the 2016 movie Doctor Strange.
