Ray Donovan is a sitcom about a family man who excels at his job. For better or worse, his job is to “fix” his wealthy, powerful, and famous clients who have made (or are about to make) a mistake. He arranged bribes for them, cleaned up their messes, and did everything while juggling a rocky marriage, caring for his children and siblings, and trying to avoid being ruined by his father/nemesis.
Because the show was a hit for Showtime, everyone involved in the production was “surprised” when it was abruptly cancelled in February 2020. Fans were outraged by the cancellation, which was understandable given the dramatic cliffhanger that ended the seventh and final season.
However, neither David Hollander nor the lead actor, Liev Schrieber, were surprised by the news. They used social media to rally their supporters to demand that Showtime renew its contract for at least another season. They were willing to shut down, and the rise of social media support eventually influenced the network’s decision… sort of.
Instead of a full season of television, fans, casts, and crews agreed to settle for a two-hour feature film as a compromise (in the same vein as “Sense8” or “Firefly”). You all worked hard for the “Ray Donovan” film to be the best send-off for a show that was abruptly cancelled.

Unfortunately, no release date has been set for “Ray Donovan.” It’s also difficult to speculate on the exact date for which fans should make plans. To begin with, the production and release dates of the episodes were sporadic during the later seasons.
Second, COVID-19 has not been completely eliminated, which may affect production times, especially now that news of Delta variants has spread throughout the United States.
If the unfinished IMDb page is to be believed, fans may find closures sooner rather than later. You’ll notice that the film is “in production” and that a release date in 2022 is expected, though the exact date is unknown. It would be a safe bet to say early or mid-July, because the first few seasons of the show would air on time during that time period.
Fans, on the other hand, will be able to see it as soon as possible if the network works hard to produce and release the film. Right now, there is no way to know for certain.
