Thor Love and Thunder, which was released in India on July 7, crossed Rs 100 crore at the box office. This is the second Hollywood film starring Chris Hemsworth and Christian Bale, that crossed the Rs 100 crore mark this year after ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’. 

The Marvel superhero film earned around Rs 20 crore on its first day of release beating the collection of ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ which earned Rs 8 crore on its first day in India in 2017. According to Trade Analyst Taran Adarsh, the film earned Rs 79.07 cr. in 1st week, in 2nd week Rs 14.46 cr., in 3rd week Rs 4.34 cr., in 4th week Rs 1.69 cr., and in 5th week Rs 46 lacs. It should have done more business due to its amazing first-weekend collection but then again the film is already riding on negative buzz making it cross the 100-crore mark is a big achievement in itself.

Interestingly, compared to previous Marvel releases, Thor: Love and Thunder emerged as the fifth movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to gross Rs. 100 cr. club. In fact, the film will join the likes of Avengers: Endgame which collected Rs. 373.22 crores, Avengers: Infinity War which collected Rs. 227.43 crores, Spider-Man No Way Home which collected Rs. 218.41 crores, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which collected Rs.130 crores.

According to Box Office Mojo, the film has a worldwide collection of USD 700.5 million (INR 5570.39 crore approx.) with USD 383.32 million (INR 3047 crore approx.) internationally and USD 307 million (INR 2521.16 crore approx.) in Canada. 

It is unknown whether the movie’s exclusion from Gulf and other Middle Eastern countries hurt its box office performance. The Hollywood movie was accused of featuring LGBT characters, which led to its ban. In a brief statement, the Ministry of Information has decided to stop the screening of one of the films shown in cinema halls in order to preserve and protect the moral values ​​of society.

Despite being one of the worst-reviewed films in the Thor series, it is still number 6 on the list of highest-grossing films of 2022 worldwide.
