The Sandman, Netflix originals starring a Game of Thrones actor, has received its first look

The first image of Gwendoline Christie as Lucifer in Netflix’s version of The Sandman has been released. Christie, who rose to popularity as Brienne of Tarth on Game of Thrones, also played Captain Phasma in Star Wars: The Force Awakens and briefly in its sequel The Last Jedi. The actress has also committed to appear in Tim Burton’s upcoming live-action rendition of The Addams Family, which will focus on the character Wednesday Addams.

Dream, a member of the Endless, a group of seven anthropomorphic manifestations of existence, escapes century-long incarceration to rebuild his realm of the Dreaming in The Sandman. Many of author Neil Gaiman’s hallmark themes, like as horror and mythology, are present throughout the series. Despite being situated in the DC Universe, the book seldom features characters from other DC comics, preferring to focus on original characters inspired by myth and legend. Gaiman’s dark fantasy series, which ran from 1989 to 1996, is regarded as both the author’s supreme achievement and compulsory DC reading.

The first pictures of Gwendoline Christie’s Lucifer, revealed as part of the virtual DC FanDome event, show her distinct take on the Lord of Hell. Christie appears formidable in the first shot, dressed in a high collar black jacket and a blonde, shaggy wig in a non-traditional take on Lucifer. A second image depicts a pair of black, rubbery wings that are more in keeping with what is expected of the devil himself. The posters are the newest teasers for Netflix’s adaptation of The Sandman. The streaming service released the teaser for The Sandman three weeks ago during their TUDUM event.

This video, which stars Tom Sturridge as Dream, also offers the first glimpse at Charles Dance’s Roderick Burgess, the man responsible for imprisoning the King of Dreams. Despite being only a little more than a minute long, the teaser demonstrates that Netflix has nailed the seductive moodiness that made The Sandman such a hit for both Gaiman and DC. Netflix’s The Sandman is obviously sticking with the ethereal and gorgeous aspect for the fallen angel as depicted in the comics for its depiction of Lucifer. In reality, the Lucifer TV program is based on the same form of the figure as seen in DC Comics, although Tom Ellis has a considerably more diabolical appearance.

Christie’s rendition, on the other hand, seems considerably more heavenly, thanks to the golden hair and gentle lighting. Except for the leathery wings and the shadows they throw on her face, which appear like horns. Clearly, the vision is preying on Lucifer’s volatile nature, as he alternates between friend and adversary. It’ll be fascinating to see how The Sandman differentiates their Lucifer when the series is actually released.
