The Last of Us games received a lot of attention for their emotive storytelling and plot. Because of the games’ enormous popularity and success, HBO considered making it into a live-action series. Naughty Dog, Sony Pictures Television, and HBO revealed plans for a live-action series starring Pedro Pascal (of The Mandalorian fame) as Joel Miller in November 2020.

Release Date

Gabriel Luna (Agents of Shield) posted a behind-the-scenes photo with Pedro Pascal and others in July, playing Joel’s brother Tommy. This indicates that the filming began in July. Collider later reported that the series will wrap production in June 2022.

Casting

Pedro Pascal, who has been in Game of Thrones and The Mandalorian, was revealed earlier this year to portray Joel. Ellie will be played by his Game of Thrones co-star Bella Ramsey. The rest of the cast is impressive. Tommy, Joel’s brother, will be played by Gabriel Luna. Sarah, Joel’s daughter, is played by Nico Parker. Merle Dandridge will reprise her role as Marlene, the chief of the Fireflies group, from the video game. Jeffrey Pierce (Perry), Anna Torv (Tess), Murray Bartlett (Frank), and Con O’Neill round out the cast (Bill).

Storyline

The core plot of the program is known to be similar to that of the game. The Last of Us takes set 20 years after a fungus-caused zombie pandemic throughout the globe. The main protagonist is Joel Miller, who has been dealing with the epidemic from its inception and lost his daughter in the original pandemic. He’s a smuggler entrusted with bringing a 14-year-old girl called Ellie out of a restrictive military quarantine zone near Boston. The first season of the programme, like the game, is intended to depict their return to the Fireflies in Salt Lake City, where Joel would have to present Ellie to Marlene (Ellie’s guardian). Joel eventually discovers, however, that Ellie is immune to the zombie outbreak.
