Book-to-film adaptations are a tried and tested way of filmmaking, particularly when it comes to love stories. From “Pride and Prejudice” to the Nicholas Sparks adaptations that dominated the romance business in the early to late 2000s, it’s safe to say that some of the finest romance films began as novels.
“Me Before You,” based on Jojo Moyes’ novel of the same name, was one of 2016’s most appreciated romantic flicks. Following the success of her first book-to-film agreement, the forthcoming romantic film “The Last Letter from Your Lover” is based on another Moyes novel.
According to what we know so far, the film will be a tragic love stories that will remind audiences of both “The Notebook” and the beautiful “Letters to Juliet” — though the newest Moyes adaption is likely to have lots of distinct features. Here’s all we know so far about “The Last Letter from Your Lover,” including the release date, actors, and plot.
The Last Letter from Your Lover – When is the release date?
According to Deadline, “The Last Letter from Your Lover” will be released in the United States on July 23. Because Netflix does not hold the distribution rights in those countries, it will only be released in cinemas in the United Kingdom on August 6.
According to Deadline, “The Last Letter from Your Lover” will be released in Scandinavia on July 30, and in France later this year — but it will be accessible to watch on Netflix starting on July 23 in the rest of the world.
The Hollywood Reporter initially reported on the project in 2019, and Augustine Frizzell of “Euphoria” fame was involved from the start. By October of that year, Deadline announced that several of the key actors had been cast, and that filming would begin in Mallorca before transferring to the United Kingdom.
While there is still some time until we see the must-see Netflix film “The Last Letter from Your Lover,” the trailer is available on YouTube, so you can get a sneak peak at the romance that will be released later this summer.
The Last Letter from Your Lover – Updates on cast members
A star-studded ensemble is assembled for “The Last Letter from Your Lover.” Shailene Woodley portrays Jennifer Stirling, a socialite, and Diana Kent plays her older form. Callum Turner plays journalist Anthony O’Hare, while Ben Cross is his older version. We’re lucky to have Ncuti Gatwa and Emma Appleton in the film. Christian Brassington and Alice Orr-Ewing also make an appearance in the film.
The Last Letter from Your Lover – How will the plot for the show?
As writer Ellie Haworth unearths an old love letter in the newspaper’s archives, she discovers that it dates back to the 1960’s. Jennifer and Anthony had a secret affair, and Ellie is anxious to find out what happened to those who were involved. Along the way, an archivist named Rory aids Ellie in locating other letters, which leads to their own unexpected romance.
“The Last Letter from Your Lover” interweaves the two historical periods to demonstrate how something as simple as letters can bring individuals from entirely different cultures together. Fans of “The Notebook” will undoubtedly like the narrative device of jumping back and forth in time to show a passionate love affair — however, perhaps, “The Last Letter from Your Lover” will conclude on a brighter note. Keep an eye out for any more changes before “The Last Letter from Your Lover” arrives on Netflix (or at a cinema near you).
