The Game of Thrones star has signed on for a new film role

Cocaine Bear, produced by Elizabeth Banks of Pitch Perfect and The Hunger Games, has cast Game of Thrones actor Kristofer Hivju in the lead role. Margo Martindale, Christian Convery, Brooklynn Prince, Kahyun Kim, and Scott Seiss will join the Game of Thrones star (as reported by Deadline).

In the early stages of development, Cocaine Bear is described as “a character-driven thriller inspired by actual events that occurred in Kentucky during the year of 1985.” In December 1985, a bear roaming through the Chattahoochee-Oconee national forest found 40 plastic bags filled with cocaine. These are real occurrences. Because of the cocaine, the bear was killed.

Smugglers are said to have thrown the narcotics out of an aeroplane as they tried to parachute out. Unexpectedly, he was found deceased following a parachute mishap. Alden Ehrenreich from Solo: A Star Wars Story, Jesse Tyler Ferguson from Modern Family and O’Shea Jackson Jr. from Godzilla: King of the Monsters are already on board.

It was written by Jimmy Warden, and Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who produced The Lego Movie with Aditya Sood, and Banks and Max Handelman under their Brownstone Productions company together with Brian Duffield are producing. The film will be directed by Banks as well.

Hivju spoke last year about what he believes Tormund and Kit Harrington’s Jon Snow would be up to after the events of Game of Thrones’ dramatic finale. ‘Jon is depressed, therefore he needs Tormund to lift him up,’ he added. They might be able to relate via Tormund’s own grief. Seasons 1-8 of Game of Thrones are now available on DVD and Blu-ray, respectively. House of the Dragon, a spin-off, is now filmed.
