The Book of Boba Fett Cast, Disney+ Release, Shooting Details, and Details We Know

The Mandalorian’s season 2 finale delivered even more Boba-related shocks, with the bounty hunter brutally claiming Jabba the Hutt’s throne on Tatooine before a smash-cut to a title: “The Book of Boba Fett.”

The thought that “The Book of Boba Fett” was the subtitle of The Mandalorian season 3 that Morrison would be replacing Pascal as the primary character threw the fanbase into a frenzy. However, The Mandalorian co-creator Jon Favreau immediately put the rumors to bed, stating that The Book of Boba Fett will be its own spinoff series, helmed largely by Rodriguez. Every day gets us closer to the show’s late-2021 launch, but The Book of Boba Fett, like the bucket-headed Mandalorians themselves, remains cloaked in mystery.

So we gathered all of the necessary information and quotations, including the series’ launch date, production details, cast, plot, and everything else we know so far about The Book of Boba Fett.

When will it release?

While no specific date has been specified by Disney, both Favreau and the official Star Wars website have stated that The Book of Boba Fett will be available on Disney+ in December 2021.

Shooting Details

Despite considerable speculation over which Star Wars series was filming when it was ultimately revealed that The Book of Boba Fett began filming in November 2020 at the same StageCraft video wall used by The Mandalorian’s first two seasons. The StageCraft wall (or “volume”), a relatively recent method invented by Industrial Light & Magic, allows films to shoot against fully-realized, computer-generated backgrounds, which were previously constructed in post-production.

Collider confirmed that The Book of Boba Fett finished production in July 2021, after which the new Obi-Wan Kenobi series starring Ewan McGregor took over the StageCraft volume in Los Angeles.

Of course, up top is Morrison, who will play Boba Fett in every episode of the series. For years, Morrison has been at the top of most people’s Boba Fett cast lists. Not only did the New Zealand actor play Boba Fett’s father, Jango Fett, as well as Jango’s many clones in Attack of the Clones, but he also supplied a new voice for Boba Fett in The Empire Strikes Back in 2004.

Morrison is joined by Ming-Na Wen as Fennec Shand, a character she first played in The Mandalorian season 1 episode “The Gunslinger.” Wen stated that she finished production on The Book of Boba Fett in June 2021.

Who will be casting?

So yet, just two names have been confirmed for the program. Temuera Morrison will return to the role of Boba Fett, the iconic bounty hunter. Ming-Na Wen will reprise his role as Fennec Shand, an expert mercenary and assassin who worked with Fett in the second season of The Mandalorian.

What to expect from the plotline?

So far, Disney has kept the plot of The Book of Boba Fett a secret. Temuera has suggested that the series would dig into Boba Fett’s former existence before he fell into the Sarlacc pit in Return of the Jedi.

According to Collider, this new series should be regarded “The Mandalorian Series 2.5,” therefore it is probable that The Book of Boba Fett will continue directly from the end credits scene at the end of Season 2.

If you missed it, Boba Fett returned to Tatooine with Fennec Shand after assisting Din Djarin in rescuing Grogu (Baby Yoda) from Imperial commander Moff Gideon (played by Giancarlo Esposito).

Fennec Shand was with them when they arrived to Jabba the Hutt’s palace on Tatooine. He confronted and shot crime lord Bib Fortuna, who had taken over leadership of Jabba the Hutt’s nefarious activities when Jabba was suffocated to death by Princess Leia.

With Fennec at his side, Boba Fett pulled Bib Fortuna’s body from the throne and took it for himself. It’s unclear whether the program will continue after this point, but we’re hoping to see more of Star Wars’ criminal underbelly when it airs this winter!
