Star Wars: George Lucas turned down Harrison Ford
STAR WARS hero Han Solo almost got the role of Harrison Ford after George Lucas vowed never to work with certain actors. However, if Lucas had not cast Ford, he could have avoided a major squabble on the set of A New Hope.
Harrison Ford will be 79 years on, July 13, 2021. Ford was an unknown actor who aspired to be a star in the 1970s. The young heartthrob had a few small parts in a few films but had not yet gained enough renown to become a huge hit. Meanwhile, Ford was working as a carpenter to help pay his bills and put food on the table for his family.
During one of his minor roles in George Lucas’ American Graffiti, he was cast. One of Lucas’ first long-lasting films was American Graffiti.
The film, starring Richard Dreyfuss, Ron Howard, Terry McGovern, Harrison Ford, and others, was a popular feature in 1973.
Ford’s role in the film was minor, but it was significant enough that Lucas would remember him for months to come. One year later, as Lucas was casting actors for his next film, Star Wars, he rejected casting Ford.
