Ken Spears, best known as co-director of famous animated series “Scooby-Doo” is dead. He was of 82. 

Rest in Peace!

Reason for his sudden demise was complications because of Lewy body dementia- as confirmed by his son, Kevin to The Hollywood Reporter last Friday.

“Daddy will be remembered forever for his art of storytelling, honesty to us, hard-working style, and intelligence. He has done many good things for us and his co-workers including of “Scooby-Doo”. He is my role-model and will remain in our heart forever.” By Kevin.

Personal life of Ken Spears:

“Scooby-Doo” immortal director was born in Los Angeles, Calif on 12th March 1938 with the name ‘Charles Kenneth Spears’. His best friend was William Hanna, son of a prominent animation producer. 

In 1959, he was hired as sound editor by Hanna-Barbera Productions. During that time, he met Joe Ruby and became his writing partner and then business partner.

Notable works by Ken Spears and Joe Ruby:

Ken along with Joe Ruby recreated the 1969 animated series “Scooby-Doo, where are you!”. Series lasted for two seasons from 1969-70. Spinning the story around the adventures of coward yet brave dog, Scooby, who involves in a new spooky mystery each episode along with his trio- Daphne, Fred, and Velma.  

Apart from it, duo also collaborated for “Dynomutt” and “Jabberjaw” for Hanna-Barbera Productions.

In 1977, they again came together and launched own production house- “Ruby-Spears Production” which filled its pocket with famous shows “Sectaurs”, “Fangface”, and “Mister T”.

Apart from that, some animated reprises were also created- “Superman”, “Alvin and the Chipmunks”, and “The Plastic Man Comedy-Adventure Hour”, and a lot more.

But, Alas! Joe also said goodbye to this world this 26th August. RIP!
