As the development of the new Star Wars game has started, Lucas film games have joined forces with Ubisoft. The branch company of Ubisoft Massive Entertainment is the one which is actually making the games. What does it mean for everyone involved and what for the game itself?

THE MOVE

The reason why Lucas film has made the deal is because of EA. So far in the Star War games department EA has been the company which had the sole right of creating the Star War games. They have this contract for 10 years. In these 10 years EA has created only a handful of Star War games. The games are Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Star Wars: Battle Front, Star Wars: Battle Front II, Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes and Star Wars: Squadrons. These games are fun to play but only 6 games for such a big franchise like Star Wars seems like cruelty. The fact that EA was also purchased by Disney explains why only 6 games were made.

Lucas films who has been showing Star Wars on their service saw this as a golden opportunity to cash in. The re branded Lucas film games aim is to make wonderful Star Wars game by bringing in developers other than EA. According to their VP, James Wauge bringing in other developers will promote diversity. The new developers can come up and bring their ideas and get the much needed funding. As Lucas film is also in the entertainment business their own Star Wars related series can also influence future Star Wars games. Another reason why Lucas film has made this deal is because now with a gaming studio under their belt as well they can look at a greater market share as they will entertain gamers and series watchers together.
