A BOY CALLED CHRISTMAS REVIEW

The movie has been directed by Gil Kenan, the movie is the very opposite of what one might call a conventional Christmas movie.

There is an unsaid rule about Christmas movies and that is they have to have laughter and happiness in every minute of their runtime. There is no room for reality. And this is where Kenan’s movie disappoints.

The base story seems innocent enough. A boy called Nicole embarks on a journey to find his dad who in the first place went to find Elvenswood. Nicole faces challenges and setbacks back-to-back, without any respite on his journey. The hardships just keep on coming his way. Nicole is so broken that at one point in the movie he loses all hope.

Now one might think after such hardships Nicole will get what he seeks. Well, he does get what he seeks but his heart is minced like meat the instance he steps into Elvenswood, as he finds out that the elves living here are not at all friendly to humans and his father is no where to be seen.

The movie does not have even an ounce of happiness. The movie is just a harsh reality without any filters. And this much reality does not work in uplifting the spirit of Christmas. It actually dampens the cherished Christmas spirit.

“A Boy called Christmas” is not for you if you are seeking to sink into the spirit of Christmas.
