How bad can playing video games be? Well very bad if you are planning to bomb an important building using Minecraft. A very bizarre incident has happened in Russia. A group of three teenagers has been arrested for doing something on Minecraft. What have they done and how severe is the punishment. All that is coming up next to you.
The Incident
The incident took place in 2020 but came to limelight on 11th February 2022. The news was reported by The Moscow Times. Three teens who were 14years old were involved in this incident.
Their names are Denis Mikhailenko, Nikita Uvarov and Bogdan Andreyev. The three teens were actually arrested while giving pamphlets to people which supported the idea of a certain mathematician named Azat Miftakhov.
When the personal assets of the three teens were searched there was a virtual model of the Federal Security Services building off Russia. With this model, which was made on Minecraft, the three were planning how to bomb the building to support the view of the mathematician. Out of the three teens Denis and Bogdan have confessed to their crimes and are going to serve three and four years in the prison respectively.
The third teen Nikita has not confessed to the crime and because of this he has been given a 5-year punishment at a penal colony. Up till yesterday Nikita has maintained that he is innocent. He claims that is being tortured both physically and mentally and also he claims that the state is denying him a fair chance of getting an education and then a job which will allow him to leave Russia for his own good.
Nonetheless all three of them have been given prison sentences and will live in the same prison as adult criminals are put in. Many are saying that this is an attempt by the Russian government to inflict fear in the young men and women of their country so that they can be controlled better.
