When Mindhunter’s second season debuted on Netflix, viewers devoured all nine episodes in a matter of hours before looking ahead to the show’s future.

Has Netflix given the go-ahead for season three? Unfortunately, no. The third season of Mindhunter has been put on indefinite hold by Netflix, according to a statement released on January 15, 2020.

Rep: “David [Fincher] is concentrating on directing his first Netflix film, Mank, and producing the second season of Love, Death, and Robots.” The director says he may return to Mindhunter in the future, but in the meanwhile, he feels it would be unfair to deny the actors the opportunity to pursue other projects while he is working on his own.

McCallany, who portrays Special Agent Bill Tench, told Pop Culture that he is hopeful of receiving a third season and two more. “I am hoping that we will be able to complete all five seasons because the audience has responded well to the show”, he says.

Knowing that Netflix isn’t afraid to drop popular titles, Mindhunter’s cancellation could be the final straw for many members. Although “on pause” doesn’t equal “cancelled,” Fincher recently claimed that he isn’t done with the programme just yet.

“I’d want to revisit that at some point. In the late ’90s and early 2000s, I wanted to reach Dennis Rader’s door,” he told Variety.

These comments came after he gave a less favourable interview to Vulture. During the first season of Mindhunter, Fincher served as a substitute showrunner.

“We started receiving screenplays for the second season, and I decided that none of it appealed to me.” So we threw it away and began again. But the week is 90 hours long. Everything in your life is absorbed into it. When I finished, I was drained and thought, “I don’t know whether I have it in me to do season three right now.” For me, Mindhunter had a lot to offer.”

He continued, saying: “I’m inclined to believe that [it’s done]. But, listen, for the audience it attracted. It was a costly production. As for the cost, I doubt we’ll be able to accomplish it for less than I paid for Season 2. Dollars have to equal eyeballs, and that’s a fact.”

Small-Screen stated more recently that it had not been ruled out “Mindhunter is still under discussion between Netflix and Fincher, which is all I can tell you for now. They’re talking about bringing the show back for a third season right now.

The first season debuted in October 2017. However, the second chapter wasn’t released until August 2019. Mindhunter requires a great deal of detail and study, so even if it returns, we’ll be waiting a long time.

The first season consisted of ten episodes, whereas the second season included just one. Another one would be in the same ballpark.
