“Real. Dysfunctional. To make matters worse, she is unpredictable.” During the Amazon Panel at Comic-Con@Home, Sara Goodman explained the upcoming “I Know What You Did Last Summer” TV series in only three words (really four, but “one was an adjective!”).

The new mystery-thriller series is based on the 1997 film, which was itself based on a 1973 young-adult novel by Lois Duncan, which was adapted for the screen in 1997. Produced by horror specialist James Wan, the new version consists of eight sections (“Saw,” “The Conjuring”).

According to Goodman, “plenty of blood” will be present in the series. Wes Craven and Jim Gillespie are credited with helping to recreate the horror genre with “Scream.” The popularity of horror material on streaming providers makes this reworking of a genre staple no surprise. I Know What You Did Last Summer – When is the release date?

Horror lovers will have to wait a little longer for this one. Goodman confirmed to Tim Kash that “I Know What You Did Last Summer” will debut on Amazon Prime Video in October 2021. A straight-to-series order was placed by Amazon in October of 2020, after the series was revealed in July of 2019. According to Albert Cheng, Amazon Studios’ co-head of television, “the finest horror franchises always have another shock coming” (via Deadline).

One year from now, the series will be available on streaming services just in time for Halloween. Unknown is whether the episodes will be released on a set timetable or all at once. “I Know What You Did Last Summer” (1998) and “I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer” (2001) are still available for viewing (2006).

I Know What You Did Last Summer – What about appearing Cast Members?

It was announced that Madison Iseman, Brianne Tju, Ezekiel Goodman, Ashley Moore, Sebastian Amoruso and Bill Heck will be appearing in the film in January 2021. (via Deadline).

Rather of relying on typical horror character tropes, Goodman wanted the show to examine each character’s complexities. As of right now, there are no character descriptions. It’s a fantastic portrayal of their characters, she adds, adding that the actors have depth and complexity.

It will be told from the perspective of a different character in each episode. A stalker isn’t the only thing on the minds of the characters, Goodman added. Their relationships and family problems will also be examined, as well as their “real f***ing lives.” But despite being in Hawaii to shoot a horror series they are enjoying the weather and exploring this tropical paradise.

I Know What You Did Last Summer – What about the Plotline?

A “perfect storm” of drama, violence, psychological terror and dark humour was described by Goodman. Will the narrative of the new “I Know What You Did Last Summer” deviate from the original’s tale of teens being chased by a mystery villain?

For devoted fans, the series will offer a “contemporary twist” on the original film’s idea. As Goodman put it, “The novel was of its period, the movie was of its time, and I wanted to create a program that was of our moment.” Due to a time lag of 25 years between the two films, several changes are likely. It’s not necessary to have watched the movie or anything else in order to enjoy the show, Goodman added. Fans and newbies alike might enjoy this.
