How is Bollywood’s first film post-lockdown, Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari doing at the box office?

Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari is the first film to be released in theaters after lockdown. People who were tired of watching films on their TV and computers were expected to rush to their nearby theaters, but that did not happen. Keep reading to find out how this film performed in the opening weekend. Also, check out its trailer below.

Many theaters reopened after October 15, but droving the movie watchers and bringing new content was a huge challenge. Diljit Dosanjh-starrer Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari was the only hope, but the film only collected only Rs 50 lakh, and we don’t think this film will cross Rs. 1 crore in the lifetime business. According to the sources, the film was created with a budget of Rs 9-12 crore, and it would have easily gained One crore on the first day of its opening in the pre-lockdown period.

No Diwali fireworks

Even the Diwali festival did not bring the crowd to the theaters. CEO of Ormax Media Shailesh Kapoor said that the response to the film was very dull. Also, Rahul Puri, MD, Mukta A2 Cinemas, said that the occupancy of the film has been between 5 to 10%, but he said that people are liking the movie.

Amit Sharma, MD, Miraj Cinemas said that the number is low because most of the citizens don’t know that theaters have opened. He also said that limited marketing of the movie did not help them to gain much audience. Many theaters opened on October 15, but Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra did not permit to reopen the theaters. Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra allowed the theaters to open from November 10 and November 5, respectively.

South Indian films are doing good in theaters

Girish Johar, who is a trade business and film analyst said that films releasing in the south are doing a good business at the box office. During Diwali, films like Irandam Kuththu and Biskoth in Tamil Nadu collected 13 lakh and 22 lakh, respectively. Johar noted that the southern film market is different because people like to enjoy the films in theaters.

Final Words

We believe that there is a need for a bigger and a saleable movie to hit the theaters so that it gains the audience’s attention, and this way box offices will gain good revenue. If people will be back in huge numbers then the movie will be a hit too. But as we said, the content remains a huge challenge, and many big films have been pushed to next year.
