Free Guy 2 will soon make it to your screens

It hasn’t even been a week since Ryan Reynolds’ video game picture Free Guy hit UK theaters, but it appears that a sequel is already in the works.

On Twitter, the Deadpool star claimed to have announced the sequel’s approval, writing, “After three years promoting #FreeGuy as an original IP movie, Disney confirmed today they officially want a sequel.”

Given that the first film continuously mocks the tremendous hunger for sequels, it’s a little strange that Free Guy appears to be destined to become a franchise – but there’s obviously room for further stories to be told inside the setting of Free City.

When will Free Guy 2 be available?

Despite Ryan Reynolds’ latest Tweet, there has been no official announcement that a sequel is in the works, so anticipating release dates seems a little premature at this time.

It’ll most likely be a couple of years away, with Reynolds hoping to start filming Deadpool 3 next year, so we’re looking at at least a couple of years.

Even before Reynolds’ tweet, the cast and crew were eager for more stories to be told in the Free City setting, though they were unsure how likely a sequel would be.

During the film’s premiere press conference, Shawn Levy told, “I’ve done things that begin franchises, and I’ve developed things… “I’ve made enough stuff to know that you just don’t know the end.” “Obviously, we’ve tossed some ideas around and flirted with them.”

Free Guy 2’s plot

It’s unclear what will happen in a sequel, but Shawn Levy appears to have already settled on a title.

“I will tell everybody who has seen the film that if a sequel to Free Guy is made, it will be called Albuquerque Boiled Turkey. And if you’ve seen the movie, you’ll understand the humor. It’s entirely based on one of Taika Waititi’s seven million improv lines in Free Guy 2: Albuquerque Boiled Turkey!”

In terms of how the first film lays the groundwork for a sequel, Free Guy concludes with Millie (Jodie Comer) and Antwan (Taika Waititi) reaching an agreement in which the latter agrees not to destroy the original game in exchange for Millie agreeing to drop her lawsuit against him and not obstructing the release of a follow-up game.

Millie and Keys then recreate the original Free City into a new game called Free Life, which incorporates certain elements from their previous blockbuster game Life Itself, and it becomes a huge hit, whereas Antwan’s Free City sequel fare much worse.

The second film appears to be set inside Free Life, with Antwan possibly returning as a villain once his new game fails.
