Drifters Series 5: Is it Officially Cancelled? Everything You Need To Know!

Drifters is a British sitcom created by Jessica Knappett. Executive producers include Simon Wilson and Damon Beesley. The sitcom follows two cousins and a buddy as they show the journey from high school to college.

The series premiered on October 31, 2014, and the fourth season premiered on October 10, 2016. On the E4 network, Drifters is currently available. The series has a 7.0 out of 10 rating on IMDb.

Unfortunately, on Richard Herring’s Leicester Theatre Podcast, the show’s creator, Knappett, revealed the show’s discontinuation.

About the show

Meg (Jessica Knappett), Bunny (Lydia Rose Bewley), and Laura (Lauren O’Rourke), three twenty-something feisty university grads and long-term friends, seek Leeds for respectable employment, half-decent homes, and worthy love interests.

Their desire for better things in life results in something humiliating and unpleasant. This desire for better things turns out to be entertaining in the show

What do naive females do in their pursuit of happiness?

They go on a lot of dates, sell their things online to pay rent, scout weddings for suitable mates, etc.

Nothing appears to come together for the flaky trio, but it also doesn’t fully fall apart, and it’s quite a sight to watch the character’s balance on the brink.

Cancellation of series 5

The sitcom had an average of 0.5 million viewers per episode throughout its four seasons. Despite this, the show received mixed reviews.

Moreover, the show has been criticized for presenting a cynical view of life’s difficulties.

But, on the other hand, Knappett feels that most of the story is factual. And also, it is based on his own experiences. Moreover, some even declared the show to be slow and the characters weak.

Because of the backlash, E4 decided to discontinue the show. Although fans had expected the show to be renewed, E4 had not made a final decision by 2019. As a result, Knappett decided to terminate the show completely.

The cast

Meg, played by Jessica Knappett. Bunny, played by Lydia Rose Bewley (Meg’s cousin).

Laura, played by Lauren O’Rourke (Meg and Bunny’s friend). Bob Mortimer acts as Meg’s father Frank and Jenny is played by Arabella Weir.

Mark, is played by Philip McGinley (Meg’s ex-boyfriend), and Gary is played by Bobby Hirston (Laura’s partner). Sam Jackson plays Meg’s younger brother, and Brett Goldstein plays Meg’s neighbour, Scott. Hot & Cold (Meg’s Fling), played by Perry Fitzpatrick, Aish Rizi, acting as manager of the call centre, Nathan and Alice Barlow, James’ girlfriend, then-wife, Sara.

Season 4: A recap

Drifters four follows Meg, Bunny, and Laura as they continue to float through life, getting into and out of trouble, falling in and out of love, and working.

The current episode begins with Laura’s steamy Halloween party. Wherein she is spiraling out of control. And subsequent episodes are packed with more insane escapades. That are range from renting out the flat to detoxing and Bunny’s transformation into a love expert.

Furthermore, they’re still drinking their way through whatever problem they’re having, so the show is just as entertaining to watch.

Even though, this season is canceled because of being accused of being unrealistic which the creator claims otherwise.

So, what are your thoughts about this series? Do you also think the same?
