Netflix has delivered on its promise to release more original television series and movies in 2021, but Adam McKay’s latest feature, ‘Don’t Look Up,’ stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence.

In an interview with Deadline, McKay described the picture as a “dark satire in the tradition of ‘Wag the Dog,’ ‘Doctor Strangelove,’ and “Network” before Netflix picked it up. In “Don’t Look Up,” two scientists strive to warn people throughout the world about an oncoming asteroid. The film is blackly comic. Great acting, funny circumstances and looming catastrophe are all to be expected. As of yet, Netflix has only announced the year of the film’s premiere – 2021. Because there are only a few months remaining till 2021, it’s safe to assume that we’ll be getting an official release date in the As reported by Boston.com, the filming of “Don’t Look Up” was completed in February of 2021, following three months on site in Massachusetts. While McKay and the post-production crew worked on editing and sound design since then, it’s likely that they’ve finished or are close to completing the project.

Last February, Netflix said it had purchased the picture. Production will begin in April 2020, with a release planned for later that year (Deadline). The epidemic forced Netflix to stop all projects, with “Don’t Look Up” being postponed until 2021. This year’s Christmas season could be an ideal time for the movie to be released, thanks to the project finally going into production in early 2021.

Dr. Randall Mindy, played by DiCaprio, and Dr. Kate Dibiasky, played by Lawrence, are unnamed astronomers who try to embark on a media tour to warn everyone of a coming meteor that would bring the end of the world as they know it in “Don’t Look Up.” It’s not just Lawrence and DiCaprio who will be appearing in McKay’s next comedy.

Mentioned are Meryl Streep as President Janie Orlean, Jonah Hill as her Chief of Staff son Jason, Ron Perlman as Colonel Ben Drask, Cate Blanchette and Timothée Chalamet, among others. We don’t know who else is going to be in the film besides Streep and Hill, so Melanie Lynskey, Mark Rylance, Ariana Grande, and even Kid Cudi feature in the film, but there are many others.

There are two persons in “Don’t Look Up” who are attempting to convince the public that they’re all about to die. This is a black comedy, therefore there will be a lot of dark humour and a very stressed out Leonardo DiCaprio in the film Lawrence’s character Kate looks to be the more level-headed of the two, but DiCaprio’s Dr. Mindy appears to be hyperventilating in a toilet in the Oval Office in the short teaser that aired during the Olympics, recorded and posted secondhand by Michael Cudy on their Twitter.

Except for Streep and Hill and the president and her son, no one else appears in the brief clip except for the two main protagonists. The first sneak peek, albeit brief, offers fans a decent indication of the existential dread and spot-on humor that will be included in “Don’t Look Up,” and we can’t wait to see it.

Netflix’s official video sneak peek of the 2021 movie schedule, which was published in January, includes a tiny glimpse at the impending film. Keep a watch out for Netflix’s first official trailer, which should disclose more about the movie’s plot and characters.
