Fan-favorite Kumiko (Tamlyn Tomita) from The Karate Kid II has finally returned in Cobra Kai season 3 on Netflix. To celebrate her return, its social media account has created a mashup of Kumiko’s timeless martial arts moves. So let’s check it out and also talk about her journey throughout the series.

Fans were more than happy to see their favorite character Kumiko, back in the Karate Kid universe. To honor her Cobra Kai’s official Twitter account posted a mashup of her practicing martial arts moves back then when she was new to the universe and a clip from the third season.

The account posted two clips to compare both the videos. One clip belongs from the 1984 film, which most of the old fans will surely remember. The post was also captioned, which meant that things might have changed now, but some have still exactly stayed the same. Check out the post below and see yourself what does this caption mean.

The actor Ralph Macchio (Daniel aka Danny LaRusso) said to a news source that he always wanted his character to be back in a relationship with Kumiko. He revealed that he wanted to explore what happened between the duo because the story of Daniel and Kumiko was dropped from the films and series.

He continued that the Karate Kid III was something else. So the actor did not understand why Daniel and Kumiko did not get a chance to stay together, and Miyagi wouldn’t have gone back to Yukie. The creators had 30 years, so Ralph said, let’s fill those blanks now.

The new season also shows Daniel’s return to Okinawa, Japan. The character also spends his time to relive his moments and revisit his relationship with his sensei, Mr. Miyagi. Kumiko’s return in the third season served as a way to connect Ralph’s character to his past teacher and the lessons he never learned from the past.

In August 2020, Jon Hurwitz, executive producer of the show, revealed how the Karate Kid franchise and the series connect with each other. He also teased the fans about familiar faces who might appear in season 3. Jon stated that any character who has been a part of Miyagi-Verse might show up in the Cobra Kai series.

Final Words

Jon and his writers have discussed every character who appeared in the Karate Kid films, so we can hope for them to make an appearance in future seasons of the series. Cobra Kai season 3 is now streaming on Netflix, so do watch it. Stay tuned for more updates.
