Black Widow 2: Will We Get a Sequel to The MCU Blockbuster?

It was a decade back in 2010 when we the fans first got to know about ‘Black Widow’ whose character was played by very beautiful and extremely talented actress Scarlett Johansson. She was a new addition in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and was posing as Tony Stark’s (Robert Downey Jr.) new personal assistant, Natalie Rushman. She soon was revealed and her façade dropped in favor of Natasha Romanoff’s true super spy nature. Scarlett Johansson has been part of MCU for over ten years and after all these years of her character’s consistent work as a S.H.I.E.L.D. operative and an Avenger, she’s finally starring in her own movie.

Natasha’s backstory and the events of ‘Black Widow’ took place between “Captain America: Civil War” and “Avengers: Infinity War,” and both the movies expanded her story to give her a chance to wipe away some of that famous red in her ledger. The fans also got to know about the sleeper cell “family” she grew up into: Melina Vostokoff (Rachel Weitz), the Red Guardian (David Harbour), and young Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh). These films eventually laid a ground plot and possibilities for future installments in the ‘Black Widow’ series.

Even though there is no official announcement about ‘Black Widow 2’, we still have one thing pretty clear that Scarlett Johansson is unlikely to appear in the potential sequel or for that matter we will probably not see her in any of future MCU installations. Natasha was one of the characters who died during the events of “Avengers: Endgame”. It will require some serious screenwriting skills by the shenanigans to bring ‘Black Widow’ back, maybe in an alternate universe or a movie which is set way before Black Widow was first introduced in Marvel Cinematic Universe. Apart from all these possibilities, Scarlett Johansson has essentially confirmed that “Black Widow” is the last time she portrays Natasha. She told Comicbook.com =, “I feel really happy with the work that we’ve done for this decade of time and, you know, it’s bittersweet to say, ‘Goodbye,’ but if you love something, you need to set it free!” — there are specific words in her statement but this does sound like a Farewell.

The Superhero world is full of surprises and it will not be much of a surprise if we see superheroes coming back to life, if the plot asks for their revival. Even though Natasha has left the building for good we cannot just rule out the idea of a sequel of ‘Black Widow’. We might see Florence Pugh’s Yelena as Natasha’s successor in the MCU as the Black Widow’ post-credits scene has confirmed some intense action for Natasha’s younger “sister” in the future, and with this we definitely have some hope for ‘Black Widow’s’ legacy.
