Amazon Is Adding Live Translation To Alexa

On December 14 Amazon announced that Alexa is getting prepared to perform live translations between English and French, Spanish, German, Hindi, Italian, Brazilian and, Portuguese. As per Amazon users will get to this new feature in its upcoming update.

The upcoming update will enhance Alexa’s multilingual skills and eventually expand the number of languages. The multilingual skill was previously added in November this year. However, this update is to make the assistant a more skilled non-English speaker and translator. It’s company main aim to make it the best non-English translator compared to any  other device in the US.

User can use this ‘Live Translation’ with initiating a simple voice command, for example- “Alexa, translate Hindi.”

The Live Translation will start with a beep as a signal that indicates you to start speaking with your partner. The activated translation feature will start translating your conversations live.

If you are having an Echo Show devices than the ‘Live Translation’ feature will display a live transcript on the screen.

As per Amazon, this update will be very useful if you are talking with your visiting friends or family from abroad.

And in case of official use, this feature will also help for Hospitality platform in a hotel setting through the Alexa.

Amazon also said that in support of the new skill, the company also has improved Alexa to handle natural pauses in conversations in a quite better and effective way.

To bring up the update before 2021 the haven’t been able to take a thorough test for Alexa’s Live Translation feature. However, the new skill somewhat sounds similar to Google Assistant’s Interpreter Mode.

The Google Assistant’s Interpreter mode was originally announced last year.

Moreover, the Interpreter Mode demo was admitted rough, but Google during its launch attempted to handle a total of 27 different languages.

This number is far more than Alexa currently support. Google along with this large number of language support additionally offers a similar ability to display a live transcript. This live transcript can also be displayed on devices like the Nest Hub.

However, we have to look if Alexa new update gives a tough fight to Google Interpreter Mode. And for more such tech updates and launches, Stay tuned!
