Governor Will Hold Formal State Luncheon To Honor UN Secretary-General

(5/6/08) Gov. Sonny Perdue will host a formal state luncheon - the first of his term - on Thursday at the executive mansion to honor UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon during his two-day visit to Atlanta. Here are some of the details:

The Secretary-General will arrive at the Governor’s Mansion at noon where he will be greeted by the governor and the first lady. The Georgia National Guard will also have a joint color guard and escort on hand to render appropriate honors.

The Secretary-General and the governor will have a private meeting in the family sitting room of the residence. They will then enter the state drawing room where they will make remarks to the media and take questions. The governor, first lady and the Secretary-General will then join the guests in the ballroom.

Approximately 130 Georgians will attend as guests, drawn from the ranks of Georgia’s governmental, educational, religious, cultural and military communities. A separate luncheon in honor of the Secretary-General is being hosted by Georgia’s business community on Friday.

Guests at the luncheon will dine on a menu of Georgia grown and raised products. The menu was designed by Holly Chute, executive chef at the Governor’s Mansion. The salad will feature grilled quail with a creamy garlic dressing. Following that will be an entrée of pecan crusted catfish complimented by cheese grits, okra and tomatoes. The dessert will be an individual peach tart with vanilla ice cream.
