PSC Candidate Gets His Day In Court

(7/28/08) Jim Powell, the Democratic PSC candidate who got a court order to prevent Secretary of State Karen Handel from kicking him off the primary ballot, will have his day in court to argue his case.

Thomas Wheatley at Creative Loafing tells us it has been scheduled for Monday, Aug. 4, at 3 p.m. in Fulton County Superior Court.

Powell was thrown off the July 15 primary ballot at the eleventh hour by Handel, who overruled a decision by an administrative law judge and held that he didn't meet residency requirements.

Powell immediately got a stay, and grabbed 85 percent of the vote the next day.

The race is for the seat being vacated by Angela Speir. The Republican nominee is Lauren "Bubba" McDonald.
