Romney Gets AJC Endorsement
(1/28/08) The Atlanta Journal Constitution, which last week endorsed
Barack Obama in the Democratic presidential primary, has now endorsed
Mitt Romney in the Republican balloting.
An editorial published Sunday, written by Jim Wooten and Cynthia
Tucker, said in part that Romney “looks, sounds and acts presidential,
projecting competence and the intelligence to deal comfortably with
policy nuance and complexity.”
The editorial argues that the qualities a president needs now are
business knowledge and experience, an understanding of global economies
and the imperatives of those who manage them and the ability to
problem-solve.
It quoted Romney as saying last week: “I will not need briefings
on how the economy works … I think it’s time to have
a president who understands the economy, understands jobs, understands
why jobs come and go.’
That, the newspaper said, “should be an appealing argument
to Republicans.”
