New Georgia Poll: 59% Oppose Immigration
Bill; 60% Want Wilson Freed
(6/21/07) An InsiderAdvantage/Majority Opinion survey conducted
June 16-17 indicates why the current immigration bill before the
Senate is in such political difficulty. In a survey of 510 registered
voters in Georgia ,we asked:
Q. What is your opinion of the president’s proposed immigration
reform bill currently under consideration in the United States Senate?
Approve: 24%
Disapprove: 59%
No Opinion: 17%
(Republicans disapproved by a 51%-36% margin; Democrats disapproved
by a 65%-18% margin; Independents disapproved by a 62%-18% margin)
The telephone survey was weighted for age, race, gender, and political
affiliation.
In the same survey of 510 registered voters, weighted for age race,
gender, and political affiliation, we asked:
Do you believe Genarlow Wilson, the young man sentenced to ten
years who has recently been in the news should be freed from prison
as ordered by a judge?
Should be freed: 61%
Should stay in jail: 18%
Unaware of the (news) story: 21%
(Republicans favored Wilson’s being freed by a 55%-22% margin;
Democrats favored Wilson being freed by a 67%-13% margin; Independents
also favored by 60%-18%).
The poll had a margin of error of plus or minus 4%.
