Americans Continue To Favor Dems For White House But GOP Has A Shot

By Matt Towery

(7/5/07) An InsiderAdvantage/Majority Opinion national survey of registered voters shows that more Americans continue to favor a Democrat for President over a Republican, but that the Democrats’ lead has deteriorated since a mid-June poll (conducted by the LA Times) that showed Democrats leading in a generic Presidential ballot test by 8%.

InsiderAdvantage CEO and nationally syndicated columnist (Creators Syndicate), Matt Towery notes:

“Both the LA Times poll and our survey indicate that from a generic standpoint Democrats have a lead. However, our more recent poll suggests that given the current field of candidates, Republicans at least have a shot at holding onto the White House despite President Bush’s low approval ratings. The improvement in the generic Republican numbers may be a result of the death of the immigration bill which had impacted the core Republican base. In this survey, those who identified themselves as Republican are supporting Republican candidates at the usual levels that we see in a typical presidential cycle.”
