Go Fish Georgia Proposal Polls Below 50 Percent

(1/18/07) An InsiderAdvantage/ Majority Opinion Survey conducted Jan 15-16 of 500 adult Georgians asked:

Do you approve or disapprove of Gov. Perdue's "Go Fish Georgia" proposal to spend $19 million on infrastructure and promotion of Georgia as a national fishing destination?

Approve: 44%
Disapprove: 37%
Don't know/No Opinion: 19%

The survey was weighted for age,race,gender, and political affiliation. It has a margin of error of plus/minus 4 percent.

Analysis: The idea does well with those who identify as Republicans (63%), but fails among Independents (45% approve/ 40% disapprove) and splits females three ways (39% disapprove, 34% approve, 27% are undecided). Does this hurt the propposal? Not really because the "no opinion" is high enough to suggest that the public isn't agitated by the idea. But is it the strongest proposal the Governor's made? Not by a long shot.
