Pike County Attorney Wins Mack Crawford's
Old House Seat
(12/5/07) Pike County attorney Billy Maddox will fill the HD 127
seat left vacant this summer when former Rep. Mack Crawford resigned
to lead the statewide indigent defense agency.
With all but one precinct reporting, Maddox was beating rival Jim
Fletcher 56 percent to 44 percent. Maddox had 2,341 votes to Fletcher’s
1,838.
The runoff election was nonpartisan, but both candidates were Republicans.
They were the survivors of a three-way race last month in which
Democrat Bonnie Gardner was eliminated. Maddox led the voting in
the first election, but missed the 50 percent threshold needed to
avoid a runoff.
He got a congratulatory call Tuesday night from House Speaker Glenn
Richardson.
The district includes Pike County and parts of Lamar and Upson.
