Battle Taking Shape For 8th District
Seat On DOT Board
(12/20/07) The Macon Telegraph’s Travis Fain is onto some
of the politics we’ll be seeing play out next month when five
members of the DOT board are up for election.
We missed it when he originally reported it, but he says veteran
2nd District Board Member Billy Langdale doesn’t plan to seek
another term, and he’s got the names of two who are interested.
One is state Rep. Johnny Floyd, who has represented a southern
swath of Middle Georgia since 1989 and currently plans to retire
after next year's General Assembly session. (The DOT seat won't
change hands until April 15, when everyone hopes the 2008 Legislature
will have long departed the Gold Dome.)
The other is former legislator and DOT Board member Ward Edwards,
who Fain reports mentioned Floyd's interest casually at a recent
event, when discussing his own planned run for Langdale's seat on
the DOT board.
Langdale beat Edwards last year after the two incumbents were thrown
together by redistricting and one had to go. But last year’s
election was only for the one year remaining in the term.
The five members up for re-election: Langdale, Emory McClinton
(5th District), Mike Evans (9th District), Raybon Anderson (12th
District) and Dana Lemon (13th District.)
Board members are elected from congressional districts through
caucuses of state legislators who represent those districts.
